The School of Mercy is completely supported by charitable donations. One-hundred percent.
These funds pay for the books, supplies, student uniforms, and teacher salaries at the school, capital improvements to the facilities and the teams to build them, as well as food assistance to the students and faculty.
The School of Mercy currently serves 200 students, providing the only educational opportunity in the village of Carmilot. It is operated as a mission of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC with donations from church members and other donors who see the school as a way to make a real and lasting difference in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
In May, 2009, a team installed electrical wiring to provide lighting and power to the classrooms. Money has been raised to provide a generator which will make the school the only building with power in Carmilot.
In September, 2009, over 20,000 pounds of rice and beans were delivered to the school to begin a food assistance program. All paid for with donations.
But there is still much to do. The operating expenses of the school will continue, as will the need for food. Installation of the generator must be completed and ongoing fuel to light the classrooms provided. A kitchen and fresh water supply are planned to move from food assistance to providing regular meals at the school. There is still much to do.
A donation to the Haiti School of Mercy helps this work and helps the people of Haiti improve their life and their country. Look around this site and learn about the school, the people of Carmilot and about Haiti. It is a remarkable place with remarkable people. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
