Haiti Earthquake

The earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday has caused massive damage and lose of life. The full effects of the destruction are still being revealed. Our continuous prayers go out to the people of Port au Prince and all of those affected by this disaster.

Three members of the School of Mercy team from Providence United Methodist were in Haiti at the time of the quake. Pam Carter in Port au Prince was unhurt and has been able to report on the situation there.

Two other team members were in Cap Haitien, which was shaken but had no significant damage. The School of Mercy and the village of Carmilot, which are located about 80 miles north of Port au Prince, survived the quake undamaged. For that we are grateful.

Given the magnitude of the disaster in Port au Prince we will be using donations made on this site to help the relief and recovery of the people there. For the rest of January, all donations will be directed to UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief. They have had a strong presence in Haiti for many years and are coordinating their efforts with other NGOs to bring relief to that country.

There are many other organizations who are doing great good works in Haiti, especially now. Please donate what you can to one of them. Thanks.
